Fishing has been steady on Red Lake even if the weather hasn’t. Actually the weather has been steady – seems to rain at bit each day….. of course rain means, overcast and a walleye chop so bound to have good fishing. Kevin & Mark ventured to Flat Lake one day and landed this beaut of a Muskie. Jeff P. was tossing his own brand of muskie chews and landed his personal best northern at 45″. Deb L. brought in a 29″ walleye only to be outdone by Mikey at 29 1/2″. Still waiting on Mikey’s photo (hint). Even though we have had rain the docks at Sunset Lodge are not under water like last year; right now lake levels are about normal.

This is the sure sign of winter in Red Lake for those of you who wonder what Forestry Point looks like in the winter (note the tower in the backgroud). This road originates at the landing and passes through Sunset Bay. The ice road network connects the towns cutting the drive from Cochenour to Red Lake to 8 minutes. The ice road network also connect to cabins, mine drilling sites and the occassional ice fishing hut…..
Ice road are now also in place for communities and mine sites farther north – ever watch “Ice Road Truckers”. Maybe there will be a Red Lake version in the works! Who knows!

Craig finally sent us evidence of his spring 2009 trip to Sunset Lodge. He tied into this gator….. another in a series of 40+ inch northerns that are here on Red Lake. Great Catch Photo & Release!

Well Rene has been busy guiding this fall and 3 of our hunters have their freezers full of moose meat. Orville and Gordie were up north and both bagged their moose; Orville with a 42″ bull and Gordie with a young bull. Steve hunted unit 3 and harvested a 54″ moose. Good shooting!

Yep hate to say it but we are having our first snow flurry today. Unlikely that it will stay but there is horizontal wind …. good day to be inside! Intermittent snow and rain. Hopefully this will blow out and we will have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

The Riddle/Blanton group weren’t the only people out fishing on Red Lake the other day…….This bald eagle is also looking to snap up a meal of walleye or northern as well. A wonderful shot Brent. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Ryleigh visited in July and really had to keep an eye on Dad. This was her first Sunset Lodge fishing trip and she caught on fast, pulling walleye and northern from Red Lake with her Dad. This is the 25″ walleye she landed and she was also in on a 33″ northern. Nice going Ryleigh! Hopefully this is the beginning of a long tradition of fishing for Ryleigh and Bret.

AJ was pleased as punch to out fish his dad this particular day. He was visiting Sunset Lodge in July of this year so locked into some of those summer northerns this one measuring in at 37 inches (about 15 lbs based on the weight charts). Big smiles, big fish! Congrats AJ!
